How We Assess

A structured, in-person evaluation designed to identify what’s driving your symptoms, confirm the specific triggers (postures, movements, loads), and build a plan you can apply immediately.

What we’re looking for?

Back pain isn’t random or without cause. If your back keeps flaring up, there’s a reason --- a specific reason. A few very specific things tend to trigger it, for example how you sit, stand, sleep, bend, and lift. Conversely there are specific things that bring relief such as lying on your tummy, standing with relaxed knees, walking or adding lumbar support.

We not only identify your pain triggers but also your pain relievers, and taken together we show you how you can move forward with fewer flare-ups.

Our 3-step Assessment-to-Action Plan

1

Identify the cause.

Pinpoint the specific postures, movements, loads, as well as daily demands (work + home) that's triggering your symptoms and  reoccurring flare-ups

2

Remove the cause.

We test mostions posture sand loads that cause your familiar symptoms, and test strategies that immediately reduce those symptoms so that you have something you can use immediately.

3

Build long-term game plan

Clear do/don’t rules and a structured path forward, so you can rebuild based on what your back can handle and prevent another flare-up. More on this below.

What you'll gain from this process

Clarity + a plan you can trust = confidence

A clear list of your known triggers; the specific postures, movements, and loading situations that reliably set your symptoms off.

A short list of symptom-reducing strategies you can use immediately (so you have a reliable “reset” for when sh** happens).

A structured plan with clear milestones: what to do now, what comes next, and how we decide when it’s time to progress.

Targeted stability + mobility work: based on what your exam shows (not a generic exercise list).

Breathing strategies that supports sleep recovery and spine stability.

A clear plan and
ongoing support
matters.

When you're left guessing, this process can feel frustrating and isolating. Coach Brent will monitor what’s working, refine what isn’t, and guide you step-by-step—so you  long-term durability and confidence.

We start by listening.

We don’t start with an MRI report or a generic 15 min assessment. We start by listening to your story to understand how your symptoms behave day-to-day, identify the destructive patterns, and form a hypothesis. Next we test that hypothesis by conducting a thorough, nuanced, physical exam specific to your familiar pain patterns. After interpreting your exam results we build a recovery plan you can trust.
Finally we provide you the support you need to execute your plan.

  1. An MRI report without a true mechanical evaluation.

  2. A quick, generic orthopedic exam that doesn’t reproduce the real-life problem.

  3. A subjective-only approach (“what hurts?”) followed by general exercises.

Most low back pain is approached
from one of three common starting points (that miss the mark):

We start by listening.
Then we build the assessment around how your symptoms behave, to verify:

  1. Which postures, movements, and loads reliably trigger symptoms.

  2. Which specific strategies reduce them.

  3. What you can handle right now without paying for it later.
