These stories reflect more than symptom relief, they reflect restored confidence, clearer answers, and a return to meaningful activity. Across very different backgrounds—from athletes and rowers to firefighters and working professionals—each story points to the same experience: being listened to carefully, assessed thoroughly, and guided through an individualized process designed to help them understand their pain and reclaim the parts of life it had taken away.

6 Years back pain

“Brent was extremely thorough — an order of magnitude more than any practitioner that I have ever worked with.”
I had back pain for a solid 6 years before working with Brent. It started as tingling down both of my legs and then slowly evolved into pain in my upper glutes after certain physical activity. I thought that I had a tight piriformis and was down the wrong path for most of those 6 years trying to remedy the pain. I often sat and asked myself “am I just going to have this back pain for the rest of my life?” which was a daunting contemplation. I was able to grit through all of my back pain. It did not prevent me from doing anything, per se, but it would just make certain things in my life, like standing for long periods, or plane rides, or sometimes just trying to relax on the couch in the evening, a somewhat miserable experience.
Brent was extremely thorough - an order of magnitude more than any practitioner that I have ever worked with. Starting off with the interview which was not utilized by any prior practitioner; I think it gives Brent insight into your whole person, which gives rise to a better patient-clinician relationship and subsequently better outcomes. He also looked at my whole body, and how it worked together as a unit, to understand the upstream and downstream causes of my back pain. He assessed things about my body that I had wondered about over the years, like my leg bone structure, flexibility issues, etc. He helped put into place and perspective a number of things about my body that I saw as issues, but could not determine the cause due to lack of understanding despite considerable efforts at self-research.

Brent is an athlete and a practitioner, and he is thoroughly knowledgeable on many things; physical fitness and especially back pain. Being an athlete is important to me, because I like to work out and practice my hobby, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Many practitioners that I’ve seen in the past, specifically in the physical therapy world, gave me “solutions” that I would see elderly patients doing as well. It just did not resonate with me and made me lose confidence in the practitioner.

Brent will heal your back pain. Take the time and do everything he says. It will be an investment upfront but will pay dividends and save you time and pain for the rest of your life.

"He makes sure that you hold yourself accountable for educating yourself and practicing back hygiene that will benefit you for many years, not just the time spent working with him.”
My back symptoms were persistent for probably 8 months at the time I reached out to Brent — I was feeling frustrated with being unable to get the necessary medical appointments scheduled to diagnose and manage my symptoms. My evaluation with Brent was incredibly thorough, much more so than the one completed by my primary care doctor before I was swiftly referred to another office (which I was never able to get an appointment with). In comparison, Brent spent several hours with me to narrow in on what could be causing my unique symptoms. Brent recognized some unique issues with my back, and called out some aspects of my lifestyle that could also be contributing to my symptoms. Through education about back hygiene and specific customized training programs, we took steps towards reducing and relieving my systems in my day-to-day life.
I appreciate the highly customized approach that Brent takes to diagnosing and improving back symptoms. In addition to this, he makes sure that you hold yourself accountable for educating yourself and practicing back hygiene that will benefit you for many years, not just the time spent working with him. If you're considering working with Brent, don't hesitate. The approach will be more thorough, personalized, and empowering than with any medical professional.

"He genuinely listened to me, something that had been sorely missing from my previous experiences... I felt heard and validated in a way I hadn’t before.”
I cannot speak highly enough of the incredible experience I had with Brent Morehouse. Last November, I experienced severe and acute pain in my lower back while mountain biking. After six grueling weeks of relentless pain and sleepless nights, I was feeling hopeless. My situation was further exacerbated when an orthopedic doctor dismissed my concerns without offering any real solutions. Then, I was introduced to Brent, and everything changed. From the first consultation, I was struck by his personable and compassionate demeanor, as well as his knowledge of the mechanics of the back. He genuinely listened to me, something that had been sorely missing from my previous experiences.
What truly set him apart was the time and care he invested in understanding my condition and designing a recovery plan. During the initial consultation, he spent a remarkable three hours thoroughly evaluating my pain, asking detailed questions, and identifying pain triggers. I felt heard and validated in a way I hadn't before. His approach was methodical yet empathetic, making sure I was comfortable and fully informed throughout the entire process. For the first time in weeks, I felt like someone was truly on my side, committed to finding a solution that would work for me.

Thanks to his expert care and attention, I began seeing improvements I hadn't thought possible. His dedication to my well-being was evident in every step he took to help me manage and eventually overcome the pain.

If you're struggling with back pain and believe there are no solutions, I strongly recommend Brent Morehouse. His knowledge, compassion, and commitment to his patients are unparalleled.

10+ Years back pain

“I have been able to get out, do the things that bring me joy, and spend more time with my spouse without anxiety and fear of my legs going numb, or being in pain.”
My name is Canaan Leonard. I suffered from back pain for over a decade, but what brought me to Brent was numbness in my legs after longer walks or standing for long periods. As a teacher, an active sailor, skier, and golfer, I could not avoid walking and standing. Multiple back specialists and physical therapists saw me and I was not getting any long-term relief. I was becoming frustrated by the numbness in my legs and the pain in my back. I was anxious about simple things, like walking with my wife, standing and talking with friends, and working with my students. I was always looking for a chair and avoiding activities that would lead to numbness in my legs.
I had x-rays, MRIs, and many physical evaluations, all followed up by physical therapy. None of it brought relief. Eventually, I started getting injections in my spine. This brought temporary relief, but the efficacy of the treatment became less and less over time. In the end, a surgeon suggested implanting a device in my back. His exact words were, "It might work, but we won't know for sure until we implant it."
My wife had been working with Brent and suggested I go. In the first session, Brent did something none of the medical professionals or physical therapist had done in my other appointments. He assessed my spine in motion. I had always had normal results from MRIs and X-rays, but when Brent manipulated my spine, and had me move around, he was able to identify the problem relatively quickly.
Over the last year, I have seen steady progress. On a recent trip, I was able to spend a whole day walking around the city of Kingston, Ontario. We spent the day walking, but I didn't need to find a chair or feel anxious about being out all day. I was nearly pain-free the whole day and had only had minor symptoms in my legs. I have been able to walk for over 30 minutes without symptoms regularly thanks to my sessions with Brent. 6 months ago I could barely go 7 or 8 minutes before my legs would go numb. All this progress has made my life more like it was before all this started happening. I have been able to get out, do the things that bring me joy, and spend more time with my spouse without anxiety and fear of my legs going numb, or being in pain.
I would highly recommend Brent's program. He sees each person as an individual. My experiences with the medical community left me feeling like a number. My treatment felt generic. You will never be a number with Brent. He cares only about helping you get better.

15 + years of pain

“Since working with Brent, I’m constantly reclaiming activities from that list. The best part for me is I’m comfortable running, coaching, and kicking a soccer ball with my kids again.”
I have had low back pain for 15+ years that started with an impact injury and fracture before cascading into pain throughout the left side of my body. I was a high-level athlete in high school and college, with access to great resources, orthopedics, specialists, PTs, and chiropractors. But the cascade of injuries, limitations, and surgeries, left me feeling pretty hopeless to change my pain cycles. It was like I was on an endless treadmill of pain, recovery, repeat with no lasting change.
I stumbled on Brent mostly by accident while searching online, but I was really impressed by his experience and resume, so I reached out to talk with him. Right from the start, I had hope for a different result: Brent has an exceptional eye for detail and passion for his patients. He kept surprising me with how quickly and clearly he could pin-point my pain and describe moments or tasks in my day that likely intensified that pain. His initial eval was far more thorough and instantly helpful without hooking me on a baloney treatment plan. (I’ve heard plenty of promises and seen plenty of “offers” — an investment of time and effort, yes, but this was absolutely different from the rest.) Quickly, I learned about my pain mechanisms, compensations, and some initial instruction to engage in my day in better, more “spine-sparing” ways.
Part of what continually surprises me in working with Brent is how I find myself doing daily tasks in new ways and without pain. (I also find myself working out hard and sweating like it, but without pain.) The number of activities on my “can’t do list” had been ever growing, from lifting weights to mowing my lawn. Since working with Brent, I’m constantly reclaiming activities from that list. The best part for me is I’m comfortable running, coaching, and kicking a soccer ball with my kids again.
If you’re looking for a reason to rule Brent out, the only reason should be that you’re not willing to dig in, change your mentality, and really own your recovery. I used to talk like my back was a third person, robbing me of the chance to do things or hurting me at random. If I’m honest, I had to change that, put my spine back in my ownership, and say I had a serious injury but I direct the course of my recovery, movement, and life.
If you’re looking for a reason to call Brent, you’ll find Brent thoroughly prepared, trained and trustworthy, and light-years better than any practitioner you’ve worked with yet. He’ll become an incredible resource and ally in your pursuit of change.

Competitive Masters-rower

"His methods helped me more than any PT or Chiropractor ever did."
"I have been a student of Brent Morehouse for several years. I am a rower who started this sport later in life and I was referred to Brent for strength and conditioning by a former rowing coach. A few years ago, a low back pain issue became so severe that I was unable to continue to train or row. I was in some degree of pain basically 24-7. Brent’s evaluation was thorough and he diagnosed where my pain was originating from. It is noteworthy here to mention that his diagnosis mirrored the x-rays ordered by my PCP. He was spot on. He basically re-taught me how to move to eliminate my pain triggers. My 'training' became rehab that targeted my movement, and focused on strengthening my core. His methods helped me more than any PT or Chiropractor ever did. By trusting the process, I was able to safely return to rowing and I now have the tools to help me avoid injury both on and off the water. If you have struggled with managing low back pain and it has affected your quality of life or ability to do the things you once loved, spending some time with Brent could change your life."

"His evaluation is thorough and thoughtful, and includes listening, explanations and compassion."
I felt seen and cared for, I was treated as an individual with a specific and unique problem who required a tailored approach. That’s how Brent treats all of his clients. It’s not a big practice focused on the number of patients seen, textbook diagnoses or cookie-cutter treatment plans.

His evaluation is thorough and thoughtful, and includes listening, explanations and compassion. You walk away—and you do walk away—understanding what’s wrong, how it can be fixed and what’s expected of you if you want to achieve success.

I’m able to do everything I did prior to my injury, in fact, I think I’m stronger in some ways. I only relapse when I skip my exercises or fall into bad habits. When I incorporate the skills Brent has taught me, I feel great. I highly recommend Pain to Performance!

Career Firefighter

On my last effort before surgery I met with Brent. He took the time to perform a through examination, assessment... and I resumed a normal active lifestyle that was not possible before.

I came to Brent at Pain to Performance as a 42 year old with a chronic lower back injury. I was a career firefighter and in the landscape industry. With a lifetime of abuse on my body it had finally came to a halt. I had an MRI and X-rays which lead down the road of injections, chiropractic therapy, physical therapy, massage, stretching, and other various intermittent cures. On my last effort before surgery I met with Brent. He took the time to perform a through examination, assessment, and explain things to me that no practitioner had in the past. There was never a time I felt pressured or was fed false hope just the facts. Over the next few months Brent monitored and coached me in a detailed manner. I am currently continuing with the program and resumed a normal active lifestyle that was not possible before.
